A kicking drill was my main subject for these training sessions in October. With a little practice, it isn’t difficult to capture peak action because there is typically a regular rhythm. Shooting breaking action is slightly more challenging, and trying to shoot sparring action is much harder.




The lighting in the gymnasium is uneven, and this shows up in any picture where the field of view is bigger than the area lit by just one light. In the group portrait above, you can see that (even after adjusting white balance in post-processing) there is a slight green tint to the right side of the picture. It’s certainly possible to correct for this issue, but that will be a call for each individual photographer to make.
