This Easter, we find ourselves in the middle of the worldwide COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis. Perhaps now more than ever, in the past few years at least, many people are thinking seriously about life and death, and eternity. The risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 is real, and we need to take the appropriate precautions to avoid that happening—but the truth is that at any moment, we can be but a breath away from leaving this world and entering the next. This is not to be morbid or fatalistic, but realistic.
I can testify that while I have had a safe and privileged life so far, I have also come close to death a few times. Whether it is a near miss in traffic or a dire (but thankfully, temporary) medical situation, as time passes by, I realise more and more how fragile this existence can be.
Today is the commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But in a time such as this, who is Jesus? This question was addressed in a recently preached sermon (20 MB) at my church—Emmanuel Reformed Baptist Church. If you have been thinking about eternity and do not know what Christ really has to do with that, I invite you to take some time out, and listen to that message.
