July 2016 action

First Tae Kwon Do black belt members undertook some training outdoors earlier this month. Although the sky was somewhat overcast, there was still a tremendous amount of light available, compared to shooting inside a gymnasium. Capturing peak action wasn’t too difficult with the fast exposure durations, and image quality was inherently much better than usual due to being able to use low ISO sensitivities.

Shooting white uniforms in daylight presents its own particular challenge, though—ensuring that the highlights are not blown out (i.e., not too much should be recorded as pure white). Out of the three photographs I’ve posted above, probably the second one retains the highlight data the best. We want the uniforms to look white, rather than grey, but also to retain some detail.
